Why wont my villager accept a job?

It is possible that your villagers are not accepting jobs due to a few reasons:

1. Villagers link to beds and won’t take a job unless they have one

You will need 1 bed per villager. They do not need to be able to access this bed though, they only need to be linked to it. So you could set up an area within a close distance to where your Villagers are and then set up Beds.

2. Any Villagers in an area will not take any professions until at least one bed is placed

Once a bed is placed, then all the Villagers will take professions immediately.

3. Villager professions in Minecraft are attached to their job site blocks

Without access to these blocks, villagers essentially remain unemployed.

4. All they need is to be able to reach their workstations

They will restock twice a day. They do, however need beds to breed.

5. The more workstations (job site blocks) are near a villager, the longer it will take it to get a job

This also is the case if the villager cannot pathfind to most of the nearby job site blocks.

6. Accepted Answer: If the villager has green sparkles but no job, it means that a different villager has taken that Job Site

So while you may want it to be that villager right next to it, it isn’t. I would suggest searching your village for the villager who did take that site the next time you place your Lectern.

7. Some villagers will not have any unique clothing, but they will have a green upper body

These villagers with green upper bodies are nitwits of the village. Nitwit villagers cannot have a profession.

8. Nitwits can’t do anything and are essentially pointless

They cannot take on a profession even if the player forces them by placing a job site block in the nitwits’ vicinity.

9. If a different villager has taken the job site, the sparkles mean that the job is already claimed

You can search for the villager who took that site next time you place your Lectern.

10. In Bedrock Edition, all villagers search for unclaimed job sites in a 16 block radius and 4 block height

If a site block is found, it is added to a shared list of valid job site blocks for the whole village.

11. Some villagers will have a green upper body and are nitwits of the village

They cannot have a profession and cannot take on any job.

12. To cure a nitwit villager, players must turn them into a zombie villager first and then cure them

For some reason, doing this turns them into regular villagers instead of turning them back to nitwits.

13. In Bedrock Edition, every baby villager has a 10% chance to become a nitwit

14. Unemployed villagers and nitwits cannot be traded with

You can place a job block near an unemployed villager to give it a job, but nitwits will never be able to have a job.

15. To turn an unemployed villager into a different profession, remove its job site block and replace it with the desired profession’s job site block

Unemployed villagers can be directly encouraged to take up a profession by simply providing the right job site block.

16. When a villager wants to move out, a thought bubble appears above their head and they ask the player if they should move

If the player lets them move, they will pack up their belongings the next day and move out the day after.

17. Villagers will randomly sleep during the day and will go through blocks while doing so

The speeds at which they slide out of the house vary.

18. The key for breeding villagers is to create enough beds for every villager plus one

Villagers generally won’t breed unless there is an extra bed available for the child. Place the beds, including the extra one, near your villagers.

19. Villagers need beds to breed

Make sure they have beds which they can sleep in and provide them with food.

20. Resetting a villager’s trade in Minecraft is simple

Villagers who have not been traded with will automatically reset their trades every once in a while. As soon as the player trades with this villager, they will lock in their trades and never be able to switch.

21. The green robed villager is the nitwit villager and cannot have a profession

22. The fletcher is the rarest villager job

You can get arrows, flint, bow, and crossbows from low-level fletchers.

Knowing these possible reasons, you can troubleshoot why your villager is not accepting the job you want them to have and take the necessary steps to resolve the issue.
